“That’s why we’re here.”

When I conduct one-on-one coaching sessions, my objective is to give my clients at least one piece of useful feedback that will make a positive difference in how they come across. Here are some examples:

Telling a man that when he sits with his hands laced behind his head, he might be misunderstood as being aloof.

Telling a woman that if she would increase her vocal volume by five decibels, she would be perceived as more leader-like.

Suggesting to a 30-year-old man that he should actually turn his head to follow a group conversation instead of moving only his eyes.

Invariably, the response I get to this type of feedback is, “Oh! No one ever told me that before.”

“I know. That’s why we’re here.”
